About Lake of the Woods Prevention Coalition
Since 2010, the Lake of the Woods Prevention Coalition has worked to foster a community culture that empowers youth to make healthy, substance-free choices. Orginally founded through a grant from the Minnesota Department of Human Services, the coalition unites diverse voices—parents, educators, healthcare professionals, law enforcement, business owners, faith leaders, and youth themselves—to prevent underage alcohol, tobacco, and drug use.
They believe prevention starts with community. By offering education, resources, and positive alternatives (like National Night Out!), they help young people thrive without the pressure of substance use.
National Night Out isn’t just about fun (though there’s plenty of that!). It’s a testament to what happens when a community comes together:
Strengthening bonds between families, leaders, and local organizations
Promoting safety through partnerships with law enforcement and health advocates
Celebrating resilience by providing alcohol- and drug-free spaces for joy and connection
This year’s event is a collaboration of countless groups dedicated to making Lake of the Woods a healthier place to live, work, and grow.
